Rev. Edwin J. Smart
Pastor
Rev. Edwin J. Smart received God’s call to ministry at the age of sixteen. Upon graduation from Pastoral Studies in 1978, he entered the ministry with his wife Joan. They served several pastorates in Ontario, before entering missionary work in Nigeria, along with their four children.
Pastor Smart came to First Baptist in November, 2000. His joyful faith and interactive preaching style helps flavour a vibrant worship experience. He believes that “people come first” and maintains an active visitation ministry.
Sharon
Office Administrator
Sharon started attending First Baptist Church in 1998, She became a Christian in 2000, was baptised and became a Member in 2004. She served in a children's ministry program for 18 years. Sharon has two sons and 3 grandchildren whom she adores. Sharon enjoys travelling, boating, snowmobiling and jigsaw puzzles. Sharon has been employed by First Baptist Church since 2000.
Hess
Church Moderator
Hess became a follower of Christ when he was 16 years old and has a passion for helping others to know and grow in Him. He has been a member of First Baptist Church Barrie for 17 years and has served in various roles within the church. Currently, he is the Church Moderator and has been in this position for the last 8 years.
Hess has a wonderful family of three children and six grandchildren and has been married for 51 years. Hess enjoys spending time with his family and friends and has a zest for life and a willingness to share with God's people and others. Hess worked in the nuclear business for 33 years in Port Hope, and has since retired
Alex
Deacon / Chairperson
Alex has attended First Baptist Church since 2004 and served on the Worship and Fellowship Commission since 2006. He has been the chairperson of this commission since 2007 and enjoys planning and facilitating various events and activities for the congregation. Alex was baptized at First Baptist in December 2005 and has been a Christian throughout his life.
Alex also enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow and learn new things. He likes to encourage their development and support their goals and dreams. He was born and raised on a dairy farm and has always appreciated the farming lifestyle and community.
Berylanne
Berylanne became a Christian as a young child and always loved going to church with her family. As an adult, she has had many different roles in the local church from women’s ministry to all levels of children and youth ministries. Berylanne spent many years teaching elementary school but her greatest love was raising three beautiful children who has blessed her
with six awesome grandchildren.
